Although crushing technology is governed by simple laws of physics, it is impractical to reduce the crusher selection process to a series of formulas. Proper crusher selection and sizing is done largely on the basis of experience, using field applications and laboratory tests to show how a given material will be reduced by a particular type of crusher.
